Bones & Rozes, authentically historical clothing

The field of social psychology delves into the relationships between dress, the body, and the self. The impact of one’s dress on both their own behaviour and how others behave towards them  Understanding this relationship between clothing and human conduct is crucial in comprehending the role of attire in historic societies. The way an individual dresses naturally influences their own actions and can also shape the perceptions and reactions of those around them. By grasping the intricacies of the social psychology of dress, we are able to better explore the powerful influences that attire held over behaviours and interactions of the past. For clothing of bygone eras was donned for a multitude of distinct motives, both practical and deeply rooted in culture. While linguistically the term ‘costume’ is derived from  both French for clothing  and Italian for clothing of custom, in contemporary usage, it has become negatively intertwined with the notion of fantasies and theatrical roles. Consequently, at Bones & Rozes we make historical clothing: not costume.
